(World War II).

MACARTHUR (Douglas) and EISENHOWER (Dwight).

Silver Print photograph taken by Thomas Shafer showing the two Generals during Eisenhower’s visit to Tokyo, May 1946.

Signed in ink by both at bottom of picture.

Measures 7-1/2 x 10 inches.

Thomas Shafer was a combat photographer in WWII and spent most of the war in the Pacific, taking official pictures of MacArthur including his wading ashore on Leyte for his “I have returned” landing in the Philippines, and spent time in Japan. This picture appeared in newspapers on June 2, 1946, although Schafer later on had the two Generals personally sign this photograph in his presence when Ike was still in Tokyo on an inspection trip visiting US troops stationed in the Far East in 1946.
